How I Met Your Mother 9.11: Everything in Rhyme

All those that have yet to watch last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother, entitled ‘Bedtime Stories’, here is where I suggest you go do that before proceeding ahead. For this is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.
Well, I have to say that I thoroughly did not enjoy that. That may have been the worst episode this series has ever done. That the entire episode was done in rhyme ridiculously annoying, and that it focused entirely on the Marshall half of this tale (plus his flashbacks) was utterly disappointing.
There’s not much more I have to say concerning this episode other than how much of a failure an entire episode dictated in rhyme was. Honestly, some of the stories could have been good, had they not been spoken the way they had. This really made me angry that they thought this was creatively good for the story. What on earth made them think this was good?
My rating: 5.5 out of 10.

Okay, folks, I’m off to watch Almost Human now. Afterwards it’s Sleepy Hollow and The Blacklist. Stay tuned.

Bones 9.10 Review: Accidental Cannibalism

For all those that have yet to watch Friday night’s episode of Bones, entitled ‘The Mystery in the Meat’, now is your last chance to do so without spoilers before reading ahead. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.
While the dumping ground for where the body was found this week was intriguing, the boasted about bachelorette party “episode” was rather lackluster, despite the brawl between our series regulars and the biker women. The way this episode had been written about, I expected most of the episode would be about the bachelorette party, and not just five minutes spent in what was supposed to be a rodeo bar.
Elsewhere, I was happy to see two squinterns in the episode, even though the way they did this makes me feel like they’re trying to build up to Daisy and the new guy dating. A little too cliché if you ask me. Although, while the newbie is rather abrasive and tries to claim every idea, I do find his ability to get under most of the staffs skin funny to watch, so the guy is growing on me.
Also, they seemed to resolve the whole Angela-Booth situation this week. Was it just me, or does the acting in this series seem to be over-the-top now more than ever and not natural in the least? As I watched that scene, it didn’t appear as if the characters had known each other as long as they have, and it just didn’t seem to click. Maybe that’s one of my issues with this show; it’s lost its naturalness, ever since the end of season six. Before I used to be able to watch emotion, drama, and humour all nicely wrapped together, and now I’m not feeling most of that on a regular basis. It really is time to end it.
Okay, well overall this episode was alright. It was very surficial and light. There wasn’t much depth to it, except for in fleeting moments. It’s almost like this series is merely grasping at straws; not even the actors are putting their entire selves into it, and the writing has just gotten bleak. I love this series first six seasons a great deal, and then there were some great moments and brief story arcs after that, but for the most part it’s time to put this series to bed. The move to Friday marks that possibility; I just hope we’ll get some sense of finality when it does end.
My rating: 6.5 out of 10.

Best Lines:
“It’s fine with Cam.” – Angela tells Brennan. “It is?” – Cam asks.
“I can’t believe this! We’re homies!” – Daisy delights.
“I dislike almost everyone. I dislike you and I don’t even know you.” – Agatha Blume remarks.
“Don’t be nice to me, it’s weird.” – Daisy complains. “Just deal with it.” – Oliver replies.

Okay, more apologies for not posting this yesterday as I had hoped. Again, Friday and Saturday nights I always get home around 2:30, so I only get four hours to myself. I did watch this yesterday; I just didn’t have time to review it, so here it is. Both Once Upon A Time and Revenge are not airing new episodes this week, so check back in tomorrow night for my reviews of How I Met Your Mother, Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow, and The Blacklist. See you all then.

Haven 4.11 Review: Connections

Anyone that has yet to watch Friday night’s episode of Haven, entitled ‘Shot in the Dark’, now is your last chance to do so before proceeding ahead into spoiler territory. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.
Well, for the most part this was a pretty good episode. I surprisingly enjoyed the mildly shaky camera work that seems to kind of work for this series. Also, I was happy to see Kris Lemche pop up in a show I watch – for those of you that don’t know, he played one incarnation of God in the series Joan of Arcadia, which sadly only lasted two seasons. There were definitely a lot of interesting elements to this episode; I just wasn’t a fan of all of them.
The one of which I am speaking of, is the idea that Jennifer is supposed to be the Child of Haven. What is that even supposed to mean? And why a guard symbol on the book? The fact that Audrey couldn’t see it kind of pissed me off. They’re making Jennifer far too significant for my liking and I’m not understanding it at all. If it had been gradual and natural to the story I may not have minded it, but it was just like BAM! Important character alert! Not my cup of tea, and sloppy writing on the showrunners’ part.
This show is certainly posing some intriguing questions. Like who was Audrey originally? And why did the “Rugaru” go after Jennifer and get obliterated when it went to touch her? As an incredibly curious person, I am hoping to get a significant amount of answers during the two-part season finale.
All in all, this was a mostly good episode. I did laugh when Nathan handed Duke his little gun and then Duke said thanks and pulled out his own gun as well. That was great, and quality Duke. I do think I’m holding out hope for Audrey and Duke to be together, cause I personally think they’d fit better now. Also, I was really happy with Bigfoot’s performance this week (yes, I mean Dwight). The man is surprisingly good in small quantities. While I am excited to see how this season ends, Jennifer has still been a disappointment.
My rating: 7 out of 10.

Best Line:
“Jennifer can do that?” – Nathan asks, regarding hacking the cloud network. “As far as I can tell, everyone younger than me can do that.” – Dwight replies.

Okay, my apologies for not posting this yesterday. I did watch this one, but I was kind of exhausted after work and just wanted to play Sims. I’m going to go shower now, but check back soon for my review of Bones. Apparently there was no Dracula this week, so that doesn’t need to be caught up on.

Grey's Anatomy 10.10 Review: Doctors Always Know When Something is Wrong

All those that have yet to watch tonight’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, titled ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’, this is where I suggest you go do that that before proceeding ahead. For this is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILER! You’ve been warned.
Well, this week’s episode wasn’t nearly as good as last week’s, but it was jam-packed full of drama. Meredith and Cristina are still on the outs, which I am looking forward to the day when they’re not. We only have so much Mer and Cristina time, so why is Shonda throwing it away on this? The way their acting around each other, I just can’t see how it could’ve gotten this bad.
Also, I’m kind of sick of this whole Bailey fiasco. OCD because of something bad that happened to her, really? Her character is getting this whole drama-filled story, but it’s just making me hate her character. The way she’s going is just completely annoying. I’m honestly happier to have her husband around than I am to have her around at this point. She’s just… not an interesting character anymore because this just seemed to come out of leftfield. From all that we knew of this character over the course of nine seasons, this never seemed like a possible scenario. I guess I’m just digging my heels in, in regards to liking this storytelling.
Webber also got a bit of a story this week. It appears he desperately wants out of the hospital, and who can blame him? He has been in that hospital for… how long exactly? Anyways, he wants out and in turn pushes himself too far, ending up breaking a rib. For the most, I really enjoyed his character this week, up until the point where he’s yelling at Jo to put the machine higher. I get it, he really wants out of there, but he’s not going to get there any faster the way he’s trying.
Overall, this was a pretty good, drama-filled episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I’m still not feeling it that this is Sandra Oh’s last year, but then they haven’t given much to her character except the Meredith thing, and getting over Owen. And trust me, I’m over Crowen. Otherwise, this episode was enjoyable. While I don’t always agree with the way Shonda runs this series, it is her show and I know how much it bugs me when people think they can write my stories better than me. In a different way, sure, but not better. So, I’ll try to let it go as long as this series is still enjoyable to watch. Oh, and also, it was nice seeing Alex – I mean the babysitter – in this week’s episode. That’s a Chuck reference for those of you that don’t know.
My rating: 7 out of 10.

Best Lines:
“You kiss my kids with that mouth?” – Meredith asks Alex.
“Don’t people kill themselves trying to make those?” – Jo asks. “Everything has a price.” – Webber replies, regarding deep-fried turkey.
“It never bothered me when she was mean to other people, but it really sucks when she’s mean to me.” – Meredith explains, concerning her ousting with Cristina.

Okay, one more show to go and then CHRISTMAS FEVER! So, there’s thirty-three days to go, whatever. Anyways, check back in soon for my review of The Crazy Ones.

Once Upon A Time In Wonderland 1.06 Review: Sometimes the Maddest Stories are the Truest

Anyone that has yet to watch tonight’s episode of Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, entitled ‘Who’s Alice’, that is what I suggest you do before proceeding ahead. For this is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.
Well, that was an okay episode. We got to see a bit more of Alice’s past and how she came to reside in that asylum after returning home. I couldn’t help but think of the new stepmom as a bitch, but the kid sister was kind of cute. I only wish she’d have tried to explain a few things to her before leaving for the asylum. It may be just me, but sometimes sisters have to protect one another, even from overbearing (and in this case, asshole) parents.
Otherwise, I did like watching Alice in that almost high state of fake happiness. The actress was brilliant at that and in showing her anger towards Will regarding him taking her from that place. Also, I did enjoy the Red Queen tonight, although not half as much as last week’s episode. I was glad that Jafar was only used sparingly in this episode, because he’s honestly not the strongest – or most interesting – character this series has. I was glad to see that Will was back in full form, but not so happy to have so much Cyrus. I’m sorry, but as much as they try to push that Alice and Cyrus are one another’s true love, I can’t help but notice the chemistry between Alice and Will – despite his not having a heart.
All in all, this episode was decent. Nothing extremely exciting about, but I did mostly enjoy the flashbacks. Certainly not as strong as the last episode, but not as bad as some this series has had. I just wish this show could grow to be consistently good, and that the writing and CGI would really get better. With episodes like this, as soon as Cyrus and Alice find each other, I can honestly see myself tuning out. This show really should have stayed a bridge between Once Upon A Time’s winter hiatus.
My rating: 6 out of 10.

Best Lines:
“Sometimes the maddest stories are the truest ones.” – Jafar explains to the doctor.
“Seems like an awful waste of wood when one sign would do.” – Alice mutters to herself before entering the Black Forest.
“Me! You should believe in me!” – Alice proclaims to her father.

Alright, folks, I’m off to heat up some food and watch Grey’s Anatomy. Stick around for my review of that as well as the one after for The Crazy Ones.
