New Girl 3.06 Review: Best Friends With Batman

Anyone that has yet to watch tonight’s episode of New Girl, entitled ‘Keaton’, then I suggest you go do so now. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Proceed at your own discretion.
Okay, this one’s going to be quick, because I don’t think I have much to say about this show anymore. Much, much, MUCH better than last week, but that wouldn’t be all that hard to do because last week’s episode made me very angry. But then, this week the episode was still irritating, so maybe it wasn’t all that much better.
Seriously, I thought Coach was supposed to be back by now. That’s really the only reason I’m still watching this show, for his episodes to come and go. I’m betting it’ll either be the next episode, or the episode after that, being that Schmidt did move out – albeit, only across the hall. Coach needs to get here soon, or this series needs to start to be written better.
I’m already sick of Jess and Nick’s relationship, Winston is now beginning to get on my nerves, and Schmidt has been on Friends I can watch over and over again, even if I’ve just watched it, this series I can barely watch once.
my nerves since last season. This series really can’t last much longer under this format. They really need to get a new showrunner to come in and stir things up.
My rating: 6 out of 10.

Best Lines:
“Jessica damn Day!” – Winston yells.
“Bat mobile.” – Cece corrects. “Batman mobile.” – Jess replies. “Bat mobile.” – Cece restates. “Batman mobile.” – Jess again replies.

Okay, I’m off to watch Trophy Wife. After that it’s The Originals. Then it’s Supernatural all the way. Stay tuned.

New Girl 3.05 Review: Money Complicates Things

For all those that have yet to watch tonight’s episode of New Girl, entitled ‘The Box’, then I suggest you do so now. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Proceed at your own discretion.
This episode made me more mad than it did make me laugh. The stupidity of Nick getting money from his dad’s estate, and thinking he didn’t have to pay his bills, pay his taxes, or worry about anything he didn’t want to do. That was just incredibly moronic storytelling. Is that what these writers think they should be putting out there? There are better, funnier ways of making someone look like they haven’t grown up, and thinking they didn’t have a responsibility to anything they didn’t want to do, was just plain ridiculous. You’re honestly making me hate Nick Miller. Really, what the hell is your problem? And just the idea that Jess should feel she’s in the wrong for sending in money to pay these bills was dumb as a post. Plus, wouldn’t he have gone to jail for not paying his taxes?
The other thing about this episode that made me angry was just the way they played up Schmidt’s self-centered arrogance. He’s going around wanting to be called a good man, when a good man wouldn’t be thinking solely of themself. Schmidt’s ridiculousness can be quite funny at times, but this was definitely not the episode. Honestly, whoever wrote this episode needs to go sit in a corner and be beaten until they realize they’re not funny. Okay, maybe that’s overkill, but that’s how strongly unfunny this episode was.
About the only scenes I did like were between Jess and Winston, and the scene at the end where Winston gives Schmidt the candelabra. The conversation between them about genies and wishes was the only hilarious moment in this episode. I really think Winston is the only thing keeping me watching this ever growingly moronic series.
My rating: 5.5 out of 10.

All right, I’m off to watch Trophy Wife, and hopefully that can actually make me laugh. Then it’s Supernatural, and finally The Originals. Stay tuned.

New Girl 3.04 Review: Feelings Versus a Physical Relationship

If you haven’t watched last night’s New Girl episode, entitled ‘The Captain’, then now would be a good time to do so. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Proceed at your own discretion.
What can I say about this episode? I honestly have only one note, and it’s not even a note, it’s my favourite line of the episode. There were some funny moments, one in particular being when Jess turns off the light and makes the horn noise. Winston was also funny, with his desire to get his cat laid. He genuinely did get it right though, that he’s hosting a cat brothel, but still the most normal roommate in the loft.
I’m really just looking forward to seeing Coach back in the series, for whatever time he is in it. Winston is great, but he’s the only thing that keeps me watching it week to week, as I wait to see Coach. Jess and Nick’s relationship is incredibly dull already, and they’ve only been together one month. And then the whole Schmidt situation where he didn’t end up picking one woman just came to a head way too early. This series is nowhere near the comical standing of Friends, I can’t see it lasting more than another year or two, if this is the way it keeps going.
In the beginning, these characters were funny, they were getting to know each other, we were getting to know them. Now it’s like we know them too much, and there’s nothing left to learn. Don’t get me wrong, I always enjoy seeing how much characters know about each other, but there has to be a little bit of mystery for the audience to be able to grow fond of.
My rating: 6 out of 10.

Best Line:
“How often do you groom your cat?” – Winston asking a woman, and she thinks he’s referring to them as cats.

All right, I’m going to try and punch in Trophy Wife and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but it looks like I’m not going to get to Supernatural tonight. Stay tuned.

New Girl 3.03 Review: Broken Hearted People

Anyone that has yet to watch last night’s episode of New Girl, titled ‘Double Date’, than now would be the time to do so. Otherwise, there is chance this blog could spoil the episode. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.
There isn’t a lot I have to say about this series anymore. That in and of itself is a sign I’m beginning to lose interest, something I’ve done once before with this series. In this episode, Jess thinks that Nick, her, Cece and Schmidt should all go on a double date; of which Winston has decided he’s going to tag along to. Basically the whole Schmidt dating both Cece and Elizabeth comes to a head, and by the end of it he’s dating no one.
This wasn’t a terrible episode; it did finally confront the whole scenario of Schmidt having two women at once. It was nice to see that that storyline wasn’t prolonged inevitably. It also had a few good Winston moments, one in particular being the exchange between him and Ferguson at the very beginning of the episode. Although, he wasn’t overall as funny as he was in the last two episodes.
About the only thing I loved in this episode was the interchange between Jess and Nick at the end. Basically Schmidt blames the two of them for ruining his love life when he was eventually going to iron it out, so he promises that he will somehow break the two of them up. This creates a brilliantly funny exchange between the couple that includes not liking pears, or pear-shaped people (see Jess), and thinking the moon landing was fake (see Nick).
Other than that, there’s really not much else I can say.
My rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Best Line:
“I’m definitely sexually attracted to lady bugs.” – Nick says to Jess, during their brilliant exchange at the end of the episode.

All right, folks, I’m off to watch Trophy Wife. Then it’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

New Girl 3.02 Review: Cats and Broken Hearts

As usual I’d like to take this time to ask anyone that has yet to watch tonight’s episode of New Girl, titled ‘Jacooz’, that wishes to do so spoiler free, to please divert your eyes now. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Proceed at your own caution.
I’m going to keep this review short and sweet because I don’t think there’s all that much I have to say about this episode.
The first ten minutes of the episode were a tad tedious. I didn’t really care about Jess’s storyline, for the most part, or the whole Nick thing along those lines. Except for the scenes with the principal, it wasn’t all that great.
Schmidt’s dilemma in this episode about the office party was okay at some points, but not great. I did like his interactions with Eva Amurri’s character Beth, and he did have some interesting one-liners, and Schmidt characteristics that were funny, but not the funniest thing about this show.
The highlight of the episode, much like last weeks, was definitely Winston. I know some like to believe he has become a bit of the butt of the joke, but his storylines are the funniest. I loved all his interactions with the cat that couldn’t stop purring, and he is most definitely the reason I’m still interested in watching this show. I hope that he keeps on being the funniest character in this series.
To be honest, this series isn’t as well developed as it could be. Speaking as someone that loves the series Friends, that show was capable of being funny, but at the same time progressing the characters. I don’t find, for the most part, that this series is able to do that. Aside from certain characters dating each other, there hasn’t been all that much change from the first episode, except that all these people’s lives have integrated together. It’s almost like with the Simpsons, where none of the characters age.
My rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Best Lines:
“Why are you talking like a James Taylor song?” – Jess to Nick in the bathroom.
“I’ll kill her cat.” – Winston, thinking the best revenge for a broken heart, is to kill the woman’s cat.
“Uhh, don’t get attached.” – Winston telling Jess not to get too emotionally involved with the cat.

That’s all for now, I’m off to watch and then review Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Then it’s Trophy Wife, with a follow up of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
