The Crazy Ones 1.12 Review: Out of the Comfort Zone

This is a warning for all those that have yet to watch last night’s episode of The Crazy Ones, entitled ‘The Face of a Winner’, then now would be the time to divert your eyes from this screen. Maybe it’s just that I’ve been binge watching Gilmore Girls the last week or so and have really been in that state of mind, but I wasn’t quite feeling this week’s episode as much as the previous few episodes. It definitely did have its funny moments, but I found that it wasn’t as strong a comeback episode post Christmas break as it could’ve been. I was kind of hoping for a New Years related episode, and wasn’t as excited to watch this episode one day after New Years when it had no major pizzazz to it.

So this week’s episode included Sydney – with Lauren’s help – swapping accounts with Zach and Andrew after Simon has an epiphany that made him decide things needed to be mixed up for creative reasons. I did enjoy the beginning where they all pretend it was a great idea Simon came up with, but then immediately groan about it after he’s out of earshot. Also, I loved the brief glimpse at Sydney beating Lauren at the videogame, and especially when she’s dancing with that trashcan on her head. That was probably my favourite moment of the episode. So it wasn’t a complete wash, but the episode wasn’t anything as special as the previous eleven.

All in all, I do enjoy these characters each week, and think that this is a great comedic series, but they can’t be a great show every week. This must just have been one of the weaker episodes this series has had written. Like I said, it didn’t have as much pizzazz as I would have liked, and wasn’t quite as fantastic as the last episode. But every series has to have their own Zeppo… Although, I, myself, enjoyed that Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode, but that’s beside the point.

My rating: 6.5 out of 10.

“I fear an analogy coming on.” – Sydney mutters to herself, relating to Simon.

Okay, so this may not be my strongest review, being that I tried to go old school like I used to do with essays in high school and watched Gilmore Girls while I typed this up, but I stand by my views. As evidenced by this coming up, I did skip over the reviews of the last episode of Revenge, Almost Human, and How I Met Your Mother. Despite taking notes on the episode, I do think I was too excited for Christmas at the time, and a bit burnt out concerning writing as many reviews as I was at that point, but nevertheless I will continue writing these. Now, I’m off to shower, but check in Sunday for my review of Revenge – to which I will say that I guessed right concerning who shot Emily. Anyways, until next time.

The Crazy Ones 1.11 Review: Privilege vs. What is Earned

All those that have yet to watch Thursday night’s episode of The Crazy Ones, entitled ‘The Intern’, than you’re getting to the party even later than I am with this review, so I suggest you go watch it now. For this is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Proceed at your own discretion.

This is going to be short and sweet, so here goes. I really do love this sitcom, I say this every week and it really is true. The actors work together so well, the comedy is smart and funny, and the characters seamlessly fit together like a family. This is definitely one show I look forward to every week.

During this week’s episode, Ashley Tisdale (of Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zach and Cody fame, as well as the short-lived series Hellcats) guest starred as the daughter of a multi-million dollar company CEO that our friendly advertising people at Lewis, Roberts and Roberts did ads for, and thus scored a three-month intern position. She also turned out to be terrible for the job. While I did watch this with my sister, who believes Tisdale is a terrible actress, I’d disagree with that in that she did decently well in this episode. I think she’s definitely one that fits supporting, or minor roles. She certainly played her character best at the Jewish Frat party, where I found her most enjoyable.

All in all, this series has yet to fail to make me laugh. Each week is just so much greatness found in all of the characters stories that I just love. I absolutely adored Zach and Andrew together this week and loved when they stood up to Lauren’s using them both. It was just fantastic. Sure, someday the kind of run on gags could become annoying if they’re used to an extreme level, but at the moment they’re rather enjoyable.

“But as a follower of your Tumblr, I say change the names and go for it.” – Simon cautions Zach against an office romance as his boss, but then says otherwise.

“I could’ve been here with Zach?” – Simon remarks, after Andrew says Zach is the one that’s actually Jewish.

“You just got ‘grammed, bitches.” – Kelsi exclaims.

“We’re in advertising. We sell people stuff they don’t want everyday.” – Sydney states.

“Zach and Andrew. Zandrew.” – Lauren joins the two men’s names. “Zandrew?” – Sydney questions. “Andrach, I don’t know?” – Lauren responds.

“That is so Sagittarius of you.” – Kelsi’s roommate yells.

The Crazy Ones 1.10 Review: Everything Gets Turned Around

For all those that have yet to watch last night’s episode of The Crazy Ones, entitled ‘Models Love Magic’, I suggest that is what you go and do now before proceeding ahead. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.

I realize I’ve said this before, likely in almost every other review of this series that I’ve written, but I honestly love this series. The characters are so kooky, but in a good way. These people work together so well, I’m astonished that they aren’t their characters and haven’t been working together for years.

This sitcom just works so well for me. It’s smart, over-the-top, but not too over-the-top. Somehow the characters manage to stay grounded and realistic, despite all their neuroses. Sure, one day their personality traits may grow old on me, but that is nowhere in the distant future. I honestly can say that I would be heartbroken if this series wasn’t picked up for another season. This sitcom is just too good.

Although I’m not completely sure why the Victoria Secrets models were getting a photo shoot done by this ad agency, it was nice to see them kind of put the Zach and Andrew roles in reverse. Also, it gave a hilarious little opening scene, as well as a fantastic scene for Simon, particularly when he wore the wings and was demonstrating for the models. Plus, they somehow managed to make Sydney feel dumb, for her upbeat reading styles. So it was definitely nifty to get to see them in this episode. This series must be doing well if it’s managing to snag Victoria Secrets angels.

All in all, this sitcom is fantastic. I’m always excited each week to see what hilarious shenanigans these coworkers manage to get into together. The writing is well done, the acting works to an incredible level, and the cinematography is just outstanding. As someone who always leaves her favourite food for last to eat, I always leave this show for last because I know I’m going to enjoy and want to finish my night of TV on a high note. Also, being that I’m not a huge sitcom lover, that this series still manages to make me laugh exponentially is astounding. Also, Simon with the puppies and then the disco ball. Honestly, if you’re not watching this series, you really need to be.

“This is a remarkably stupid predicament. This is like Brady Bunch level stupid.” – Sydney states.

“And he set the lobsters free at the restaurant.” – Gordon explains some of Simon’s antics.

The Crazy Ones 1.08 Review: A Conflict of Interest

All those that have yet to watch last night’s episode of The Crazy Ones, entitled ‘The Stan Wood Account’, that is what I suggest you do now before reading ahead. For this is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.

I love this series; it is an amazing sitcom. I’m constantly laughing all the way through the episode; these people are just amazing together. This cast’s chemistry is just phenomenal.

While I do prefer when they all work together throughout the episode, this episode was still memorably hilarious. Sydney’s faux flirting and thinking she’s dating an eighty year old man was ridiculously insane, but perfect for the tempo of this series. And then Andrew being the one that is the weak link in situations is flawlessly fitting of his character, even though it turns out to be Simon that lets up on the circumstances. These characters though, I just love them to death. More so than any sitcom that I have watched in years, I will be monstrously disappointed if this series only gets the one season.

Every moment in this show is just fantastic. The use of Nelly’s song ‘Ride With Me’ worked hilariously well into the scenes it was used for. Then Lauren and Zach working together to sell cars, and the two of them flaunting themselves on top of cars to get the sale for prospective people riotous in its hilarity. I honestly love watching this show every week, I just wish there was more to watch.

This series just takes the cake every single week. It’s hilarious, the cast just works incomparably well together, and the circumstances in each episode are uproarious. These people deserve – no, the public deserves for this series to have many seasons. Not only is this show smart with its comedy in that it doesn’t try to dumb down the writing, its not just about a work sitcom, it’s about people that fit together as family.

My rating: 7.5 out of 10.

“I’d carry your hair in a locket if necklaces weren’t weird on guys.” – Zach explains his fondness for Simon.

“Why do I confide in you people?” – Sydney questions herself, as she often does in this series.

“We’re basically a pimp in a mink hat away from being whores.” – Andrew sums up their job as advertisers.

The Crazy Ones 1.07 Review: The Stalker Files

Anyone that has yet to watch last night’s episode of The Crazy Ones, titled ‘Sydney, Australia’, now would a good time to do so before reading ahead. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.

This series is hilarious, I absolutely love it. From what I can recall, it’s the best sitcom I’ve watched in a while. This ensemble cast just works so well together, that I don’t ever want this series to end. They really kill it working together.

So this week, Josh Groban guest starred as Sydney’s stalker ex who saw an ad about her in a paper and sent her a basket with a CD that included a song – or rather a jingle – about her. A rather catchy song at that, to which Sydney’s loveable coworkers begin to tease her with to no end. I just loved all of their reactions to the song, with Zach and Andrew and Lauren all singing along to it when they first heard it. These people are honestly a comedy gold mind. Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar are great, but it’s the rounding out of the cast with James Wolk, Hamish Linklater, and Amanda Setton that just turn this comedy into something spectacular.

Really, I don’t think there is anything that I found particularly wrong with this episode. Sure, I expected Sydney to turn Danny down and then for them to somehow want or need them in the end, but that didn’t make it any less interesting when it happened. Then there was Simon’s hatred of Australia, which was just plain hilarious, especially when he sings about it at the end with Danny and comes to the conclusion it may have been New Zealand he’s hated all these years. Not only that, but all of the funny ways they pitched ideas to the Aussie tourist agency was sidesplitting, particularly when they all dressed up in the feathers and dresses. This series is just through the roof funny, and I don’t often say that about sitcoms. Perhaps it’s that this series doesn’t dumb down the funny, and that all of the actors are really coming into their own in their characters, including Sarah Michelle Gellar to which I found was struggling in the beginning, but any way you put it this show is great.

All in all, I love this series. The characters are perfect, kooky and flawed and each adding their own piece to the unit. The filming style works great, especially the brief views of New York City. Really, every week I look forward to this show and it doesn’t disappoint. This show makes for the perfect end to an evening of television. I just can’t wait for more.

“Australia’s so hot, not even the Nazi’s wanted it.” - Simon complains.

“Should they even be allowed to call themselves a continent? I think we should revisit that, like we did with Pluto.” – Simon persists with his hatred for Australia.

“I always wonder where it goes when that happens.” – Lauren ponders, after Sydney says she no longer has to pee.

“God, I hate that coun-“ – Simon mutters. “Dad!” – Sydney cuts him off.
