Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 1.11 Review: The Truth of the Matter

This is a friendly reminder for anyone that has yet to watch last week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., entitled ‘The Magical Place’, that now would be a good time to do that. For this is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.

Okay, so this is going to be quick, but here goes. While I don’t quite think all the acting is completely up to snuff (*cough*May*cough*), I did really like that there was a great unity to our favourite super-less heroes. They were all very much in the mindset to rescue Coulson, and bring him back to lead the team.

Some of my favourite parts to this episode involved a lot of Skye. Her impersonating May was fantastic and hilariously on key. I’d almost think she expressed more depth of the character than Melinda May herself. Also, I thought that the actress that plays Raina was very good this week in her persuading skills. I was honestly beginning to feel like she was completely right about the entire situation, but the actress still tries a little too hard. Clark Gregg was perfect this week in demonstrating the hardships Coulson was going through. I much preferred this to the occasional arrogance that can come off him. And I would also like to say that at least Mike is still alive; perish the thought of not seeing J. August Richards on my screen every week; I’ve missed him since Angel.

All in all, I’m actually looking forward to tonight’s episode. I was honestly expecting the payoff for Coulson’s being brought back to life to be disappointing, but it was actually decent. It was eerily creepy watching that machine do what it was doing to his brain, and having him repeatedly ask them to just let him die. It was sad and something I could pity.

“Don’t touch Lola.” – Skye tells the agent, referring to Coulson’s car.

“Disengage bracelet.” – Coulson says. “Are you kidding me?” – Skye questions.

Trophy Wife 1.11 Review: A Mid-Life Crisis

For all those that have yet to watch last Tuesday’s episode of Trophy Wife, entitled ‘The Big 5-0’, then now would be the perfect time to do that. This is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You’ve been warned.

This episode revolved around Pete’s belief that celebrating his birthday, on his birthday, is cursed, and Kate goes to try and set that straight. A lot of crazy stuff happens, including some lobsters needing to be caught, and all in the name of good, sitcom-y fun.

This series is definitely an enjoyable show to watch. It’s all very exaggerated humour that would be unbelievable if it were to happen to anyone, but it’s all in the name of good fun. While I do find shows like Friends, How I Met Your Mother, and even The Crazy Ones have their moments where they step back, pull the curtain back, and give you a sense of genuine comedy, this is not one of those shows. Like I said, it’s all very exaggerated fun that shouldn’t be taken seriously. That makes this an easy show to sit through and laugh, and that’s definitely something I can use from time to time.

All in all, this episode fit right along the rest of this series outrageous sitcom circumstances. Probably my favourite parts to this episode involved the kids and having to catch the lobsters. I also liked when Hillary and Warren had to break it to Bert that he’s eaten everything he’s ever worn on pajamas. Basically, this show is just good fun.

“Ah, you’re almost out of eggs. You’re out of eggs.” – Meg says to Kate as she goes shopping in her kitchen.

“You’ve gotta think like a lobster. (Pause) Bingo.” – Warren explains, as he waddles along on the floor.

“Don’t you know that old expression: that you catch more flies with honey than by being a bitch?” – Jackie gives her take on the expression to Diane.

“Are you having my mid-life crisis?” – Pete asks Kate.

The Crazy Ones 1.11 Review: Privilege vs. What is Earned

All those that have yet to watch Thursday night’s episode of The Crazy Ones, entitled ‘The Intern’, than you’re getting to the party even later than I am with this review, so I suggest you go watch it now. For this is not a spoiler free blog. THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Proceed at your own discretion.

This is going to be short and sweet, so here goes. I really do love this sitcom, I say this every week and it really is true. The actors work together so well, the comedy is smart and funny, and the characters seamlessly fit together like a family. This is definitely one show I look forward to every week.

During this week’s episode, Ashley Tisdale (of Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zach and Cody fame, as well as the short-lived series Hellcats) guest starred as the daughter of a multi-million dollar company CEO that our friendly advertising people at Lewis, Roberts and Roberts did ads for, and thus scored a three-month intern position. She also turned out to be terrible for the job. While I did watch this with my sister, who believes Tisdale is a terrible actress, I’d disagree with that in that she did decently well in this episode. I think she’s definitely one that fits supporting, or minor roles. She certainly played her character best at the Jewish Frat party, where I found her most enjoyable.

All in all, this series has yet to fail to make me laugh. Each week is just so much greatness found in all of the characters stories that I just love. I absolutely adored Zach and Andrew together this week and loved when they stood up to Lauren’s using them both. It was just fantastic. Sure, someday the kind of run on gags could become annoying if they’re used to an extreme level, but at the moment they’re rather enjoyable.

“But as a follower of your Tumblr, I say change the names and go for it.” – Simon cautions Zach against an office romance as his boss, but then says otherwise.

“I could’ve been here with Zach?” – Simon remarks, after Andrew says Zach is the one that’s actually Jewish.

“You just got ‘grammed, bitches.” – Kelsi exclaims.

“We’re in advertising. We sell people stuff they don’t want everyday.” – Sydney states.

“Zach and Andrew. Zandrew.” – Lauren joins the two men’s names. “Zandrew?” – Sydney questions. “Andrach, I don’t know?” – Lauren responds.

“That is so Sagittarius of you.” – Kelsi’s roommate yells.
