Supernatural 9.10 Review: Power Struggles

While I was very much hoping the entire time that Kevin would magically come back to life, this was still a pretty decent episode. We happily got to see Tahmoh Penikett grace our screens again, and it seems like he may be sticking around for a bit as Gadreel. Abbadon made her rounds this week once again, and it seems that her and Crowley may be vying for constituents now that the latter is free from the Winchester’s cletches. And an angel free Sam – who better get that tattoo back on his chest now that Castiel burned it off him – is finally back after all these weeks. All in all, it was a very packed episode this week.

The way this episode opened up, with the hunter funeral for Kevin and Dean trashing the bunker research area, was very well done, although I would liked to have at least heard the crashing of the lamps and books as Dean tossed them around them, it would’ve been more visceral. Also, watching Dean pat his baby (the Impala for all you not Supernatural-ly inclined) was characterally brilliant and on key. I was a bit surprised, though, that they couldn’t just use one of the vehicles from the bunker, rather than the pimp mobile Cas was driving. There were a lot of great little details that added up to this episode.

Although I do still feel like this season is headed more in the direction of what used to make this show great, I am still a little worried by how heavily angels and demons this episode was involved. Don’t get me wrong, they have their uses, and I always enjoy seeing Cas, but sometimes there are just too many of them. I really wish that this show wouldn’t try to be too mythologically heavy. It was nice to have the little ghouls and cheerleaders shout out in Sam’s dream, though.

Basically, this wasn’t too bad of an episode. I try to think of myself as a more glass is half full kind of girl, so this episode was pretty good. I still don’t like having to see Metatron so damned much, but I understand he has his uses. And while I’m not the biggest war between the demons fan, at least when we see Crowley we know what we’re getting, whereas Abbadon is a loose canon. The way they end this episode was heartbreaking in the way that Sam told Dean to go. I know he’d basically gotten him possessed, but they’re brothers, family is supposed to stick by each other. Why didn’t Sam stop him?

Bones 9.10 Review: Accidental Cannibalism

While the dumping ground for where the body was found this week was intriguing, the boasted about bachelorette party “episode” was rather lackluster, despite the brawl between our series regulars and the biker women. The way this episode had been written about, I expected most of the episode would be about the bachelorette party, and not just five minutes spent in what was supposed to be a rodeo bar.

Elsewhere, I was happy to see two squinterns in the episode, even though the way they did this makes me feel like they’re trying to build up to Daisy and the new guy dating. A little too cliché if you ask me. Although, while the newbie is rather abrasive and tries to claim every idea, I do find his ability to get under most of the staffs skin funny to watch, so the guy is growing on me.

Also, they seemed to resolve the whole Angela-Booth situation this week. Was it just me, or does the acting in this series seem to be over-the-top now more than ever and not natural in the least? As I watched that scene, it didn’t appear as if the characters had known each other as long as they have, and it just didn’t seem to click. Maybe that’s one of my issues with this show; it’s lost its naturalness, ever since the end of season six. Before I used to be able to watch emotion, drama, and humour all nicely wrapped together, and now I’m not feeling most of that on a regular basis. It really is time to end it.

Okay, well overall this episode was alright. It was very surficial and light. There wasn’t much depth to it, except for in fleeting moments. It’s almost like this series is merely grasping at straws; not even the actors are putting their entire selves into it, and the writing has just gotten bleak. I love this series first six seasons a great deal, and then there were some great moments and brief story arcs after that, but for the most part it’s time to put this series to bed. The move to Friday marks that possibility; I just hope we’ll get some sense of finality when it does end.

Okay, more apologies for not posting this yesterday as I had hoped. Again, Friday and Saturday nights I always get home around 2:30, so I only get four hours to myself. I did watch this yesterday; I just didn’t have time to review it, so here it is. Both Once Upon A Time and Revenge are not airing new episodes this week, so check back in tomorrow night for my reviews of How I Met Your Mother, Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow, and The Blacklist. How I Met Your Mother 9.10 Review: Delusional Thinking

Well, I think I’ve finally come to the point where I’m just trying to appreciate this season’s final season – that or I just found this episode good and funny. More than likely, it was a bit of both. There’s a limited amount of new episodes this series is going to have, and I’m trying my best to enjoy seeing this series on my television every week.

This season still does feel a bit like an extra season we were lucky enough to get, and in ways I am quite appreciative of this season. We get to see these five people together, as close as they are, and get to say goodbye to these beloved characters as they bid us farewell. That being said, I am still a bit disappointed in the wedding weekend long season, but I think it is just because I miss more of the year long pacing that this series is more familiar with. Plus, this means we probably won’t get to see these people celebrate Christmas one last time (and Christmas is my favourite holiday; only 36 days left).

Am I the only one that thinks Alyson Hannigan looks better this season than she has in years? I absolutely love her hair, it suits her perfectly, and I no longer think she looks like a new mom – you know, the kind that always looks exhausted. I’m loving getting to see her and Ted spend this much time together, being that her husband is still on the road to the wedding. They’ve had a lot of quality episodes together, and I think that’s great, although I would like to see more of the full group together, especially as soon as Marshall finally gets there.

I just want to mention some of my favourite funny moments of the episode. The first one was definitely the stairs sign, very much something Barney would do. Also, I loved watching Barney and his brother fighting like girls with their hands the way they did; these two are such awesome brothers. Another thing was the song that played during the scene where Ted and Lily realize Zabka framed Ted; nice to know they can throw in some quality rock music. And finally, I really enjoyed Barney’s rendition of a suicide note as his dad read it to the police; he didn’t even spell Cheryl right.

All in all, I am enjoying this season. I do wish a little more would happen and that it wasn’t so concentrated on the wedding as much as it was about Ted meeting the Mother, but it is still good. Maybe it’s just sad knowing there’s an end date for this series.
